Magnetic Field Studies of a Cos(theta) Coil

چکیده

The search for electric dipole moment (EDM) using ultra cold neutrons (UCNs) may discover new Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) of electroweak interaction, where the presence of EDM, which would signal T violation and thus CP violation (by assuming CPT invariance), may explain the asymmetry of particle-antiparticle observed in our universe. In the measurement of EDM, a small, uniform and fine-tuned magnetic field is required, and the study of geometry of Cos θ coil optimizes the field uniformity. Computer simulation is used to calculate the field, first order correction to uniform field, value of false EDM, and superposition of coils for higher uniformity. Magnetic scalar potential is also used to estimate the field distribution.
